In Luke 10, Jesus disciples are unbelievably excited about their performance for God. Through the Holy Spirit, and in the name of Jesus, they have done great things to advance the Kingdom of God. However, Jesus commands them not to rejoice over their performance, but to rejoice in something else. They were to find much greater joy in God’s performance for them and their names being written in heaven, than in having earthly success over the powers of hell. More than anything, they were to rejoice in God’s performance, penmanship, and their position.
